Frequently Asked Questions

I've got a chainsaw. Why should I hire a professional?

Trees are heavy, dangerous and can cause lots of damage if not handled properly. The tools used to cut trees can also be dangerous even if you think you know how to use them. A tree or heavy branch may not fall in the direction you want it to. This can lead to property damage, injury or even loss of life. We are completely WSIB compliant and fully insured. If something goes wrong and there is damage, we’re covered, are you?

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

No. Windsor and surrounding areas have not adopted a tree preservation by-law as of yet. It should be noted that tree removal could fall under the Species at Risk Act and/or the Migratory Bird Act if the tree species being removed is a species at risk, or if the tree in question is providing habitat/nesting for an animal, bird or insect that is at risk.

Do you provide tree services in winter?

Yes. We offer our full range of services in the winter. Although, it is recommended that trimming take place when the trees are in full leaf as there is less danger of impacting the health of the tree and the tree will often react much better to the wounding.

Will the chemicals you use be safe for my children and pets?

We do not use any chemicals in our fertilization, insect, or disease control treatments.

Do you relocate trees?

Not at this time.

Will you need to bring heavy equipment onto my property?

In certain situations it is necessary to bring in a piece of equipment to access a tree, remove logs, or to grind out a stump. Often we will wait until the ground is dry or frozen or lay plywood to drive on to minimize the impact to your property.

My tree is covered in ants. Should I be concerned?

If you find big black ants on your tree, it is an indication that there is decay in the tree. The ants are there because the tree provides a home for them. They do not damage the living, supporting wood, only the rotting wood. It would be a good idea to have the extent of the decay assessed to determine if there is a risk of branch failure.

What do you do with tree and shrub waste?

Branches and wood get chipped and hauled to our facility. There it is stored, then reground and used as a landscape ground cover. If you should like to keep and use the wood chips from your tree or brush removal, let us know.

What happens if there is damage to my property during a tree removal?

Like any reputable company, we stand behind our work. In the event that anything should happen, we are fully insured and completely WSIB compliant.

What's the difference between a tree service and a landscaper?

Arborists receive specialized schooling in all aspects of trees, tree care and shrubbery.  Landscapers have a general knowledge about plants, landscape structure and landscape décor. The training for an arborist is in depth and very focused on trees.

Why prune? Shouldn't a tree be allowed to develop naturally?

Often we have to prune to remove conflicts between infrastructure and trees or to accommodate the needs of a home owner. The type of trimming should be species specific. Poor nursery stock is the most common reason for ongoing pruning requirements.

My neighbor's tree is partially on my property. Do I have the right to trim it?

You have a right to prune what is over your property as long as you are using arboriculturaly sound practices. One cannot arbitrarily cut to the lot line, leaving the tree mutilated or in an unsafe condition.

Roots from my tree are damaging pipes / sidewalks / curbs. Do I have to remove it?

Tree roots can impact sewer pipes, sidewalks and foundations. It’s always better to remove a root when it is small rather than waiting until it is large enough to cause damage. When removing roots, it should be determined if it is integral to anchoring the tree.

Do I have to be home while you're on my property?

Generally, no! Normally the estimator will discuss the job with the home owner prior to work commencement and specific instructions will be relayed to the crew. Under certain circumstances, we do recommend that the home owner be present such as when specific branches on a tree are to be removed.

Do I need to prepare my yard for your workers?

It is always a good idea to remove anything that can be damaged from falling branches and wood. Often we recommend that any garden ornaments, patio sets and even plants be removed from the landscape.
